My name is Matilde and I will be supporting the 6 weeks social start-up program as a volunteer translator in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In 2013, I spent 7 months living in Rio as an international student in Sociology and International Relations. During my time abroad, I took part in many social activities in Rio’s communities, as well as developing my studies in social and economic integration in Brazil. It was a truly amazing experience, and on the back of it I told myself that one day I would move back to South America.
Fortunately here I am again, thanks to _SocialStarters! When I found out about the program, I was impressed by its ambition and goal-oriented mindset. I decided to join the team because I want to improve my knowledge about social entrepreneurship, and in doing so help people focus on their professional development.
Nowadays, with its wonderful skylines and enormous contrasts, Rio de Janeiro is a challenging and sometimes difficult area to work in. Due to the 2016 Olympic Games, the city is actually at the centre of a public debate relating to security and social impact. After the World Cup in 2014, the Games are going to present another challenge for Brazil, as well as a great opportunity for the country to gain experience and exposure to the pressures of the watching international community.
Brazil is changing, and working here while http://premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/gastrointestinal/ this is happening is extremely interesting and exciting. This is why I started volunteering for _SocialStarters– I will support local entrepreneurs to gain further experience about their activities a year ahead of the Games. Furthermore, I cannot wait to see how a number of diverse professionals from all over the world will collaborate and deliver their expertise to promote social impact. It will be a multilevel exchange and I will support every actor on the scene, by using both my technical expertise and soft skills.
Brazil, Rio and social enterprise more broadly are in a state of flux. Instead of watching the world change around us, why not influence the direction of this change?
