The social enterprise scene in Hyderabad is growing – would you like to #JoinUs to make that growth sustainable?

Hyderabad is India’s IT hot spot and destination for any IT lover that wants to make it big in the world of technology. Hyderabad, a city with 9 million people following their paths every day – SocialStarter’s first location to host a programme one year ago.

One year later, we are continuing what we started – and Hyderabad’s social enterprise scene has grown radically in this last year. Mostly thanks to the work of our partners, UnLtd Hyderabad, who just selected a new cohort of investees, each of them a social entrepreneur looking to make a change in their local community, state-wide, and/or in their country itself. Even though social enterprises are still facing many internal and external issues here in India, it seems that more and more people are becoming aware of the fact that the country is suffering from severe social issues which need to be solved. Where the government fails, business sees a potential opportunity to step in and make an impact whilst being financially sustainable.

The social entrepreneurs we are working with in Hyderabad also saw this opportunity, and turned their passion to solve community issues into business.

Since the start of February ’16 our (current) cohort of six international professionals have worked with 4 projects to tackle specific challenges – from social media marketing strategy, to organisational structure and overcoming growing pains.

Meet the clients:

Rubaroo – a youth development programme focussed on inspiring the social change makers of tomorrow

Sattva – an inclusive learning centre for children and young adults with special needs

RideIT – an App service looking to make car-pooling safer and more affordable, whilst reducing traffic congestion and the impact of cars on the environment

nutfil – a nutritious snack bar made from local, organic ingredients, providing local village women with a more stable income and livelihood

Does the idea of coming to India and working with local change makers to create impact sound like a challenge you’d like to take on?

Have you been thinking about taking some time off, exploring options for a meaningful career, travel with purpose or apply your skills in a volunteer position that can really make an impact?

Perhaps #JoinUs in Hyderabad in April.

_SocialStarters will take you through an initial week of training to give you an overview of the social enterprise landscape in India, as well as take you through contemporary start-up methods and equip you with basic consultancy tools and techniques. You then have the chance to apply these skills over 5 weeks of volunteering. We are looking for incredible individuals that are looking for an overseas challenge that allows them to apply their professional skills, knowledge-share with the peer group, explore a little personal development, whilst at the same time making a tangible impact.
